  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

What a beautiful day we had in Kleinbaai today, the sun was shining, there was a slight breeze and we were on our way out to see some Great Whites! We anchored at Geldsteen, a dive area we have had some great success with in the past, however today it appeared that the sharks were not around so after only spotting a whale breaching in the distance but no sharks, so we packed up and headed to the Island to try our luck there. Within minutes of settling we had our first shark, a 4.0m male content on cruising around slowly. Things heated up with our second visitor, a smaller male that we have seen the previous two days at the boat that is recognisable by a pattern of freckles down the right side of his trunk. The star of the trip came next, an approximately 4.1m female interested in getting as close as possible to the boat and cage and giving the divers a good look as she glided by. This female hung around with us until the end of the trip and could still be seen swimming at the surface as we left. The fourth shark of the day, a 2.5m juvenile came speeding in towards the end of our trip showing those onboard the difference in size between a juvenile and a near matured Great White Shark! While the shark action started off a bit slow today we sure ended with a bang...
